A Brief History of NLP
In the early 1970s mathematician Richard Bandler and linguist John Grinder teamed up to do research and discover the differences between someone who is merely competent at a given skill and someone who excels at the same skill. They chose the field of psychotherapy to study. The three experts they chose to “model” were Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir, and Milton Erickson. These three experts accomplished their therapeutic magic in what seemed to be very different ways. What Bandler and Grinder were able to accomplish, was to find the essential underlying principles that made these “gifted” people so effective. The patterns, methodology and techniques that they created are the basis of what has been labeled Neuro-Linguistic Programming. |
